My Testimony

I was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. My father was a Baptist minister, so I grew up in church and began singing and playing the piano at the age of three. From the time I was little, I traveled throughout the Southeast with my daddy—he would preach, and I would sing.

My daddy was my hero. He was the greatest spiritual influence in my life and always encouraged me to use the gifts God had given me. Even as a young child, I knew God had a calling on my life.

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and was baptized at the age of seven. After graduating from high school, I married, but just two years later I went through a painful divorce. I was devastated. My heart was broken, and I found myself questioning God.

I couldn't understand why this was happening. I had faithfully served the Lord all my life, and I believed this shouldn't have happened to me. Instead of running to God, I became angry with Him. I stopped going to church, stopped singing, and wanted nothing to do with the ministry God had called me to.

Every Saturday, my precious daddy would come to see me and invite me to church. Every Saturday, I turned him away. As he left, he would always look back at me with tears in his eyes and say, "Remember, Daddy's praying for you. If you don't use your talent for the Lord, He will take it away."

Those words shook me because deep down I knew they were true. But my heart had grown hard, and bitterness had taken hold.

Then God got my attention.

My daddy became critically ill and spent two weeks in the intensive care unit. One evening, the doctors gathered our family together and told us they had done everything they could. They didn't expect him to survive the night.

My heart broke all over again.

I couldn't bear the thought of my daddy leaving this world believing his little girl was living outside God's will. Right there in the ICU, I fell to my knees and cried out to the Lord. I confessed my sin, asked His forgiveness, and rededicated my life to Him.

I prayed, "Lord, please don't take my daddy yet. Give me enough time to tell him I've come back to You. I promise I'll serve You, sing for You, and do whatever You've called me to do."

The next morning, the doctors came in and said they couldn't explain the dramatic change in my father's condition. They decided to remove him from life support and see how he responded.

I knew exactly what had happened.

The Great Physician had heard my prayer.

In His mercy and perfect love, God used my father's illness to bring me back to Him. He knew exactly what it would take to reach my heart and draw me home. My father continued to improve, and a few weeks later he was able to return home.

Several months later, I joined a gospel group and traveled with them for nearly six years. My daddy often traveled with us on the bus and faithfully sat on the front pew at every service. There was nothing that made him happier than seeing me doing what God had called me to do.

On November 11, 1997, my precious daddy went home to be with the Lord.

God didn't owe me another moment with my daddy, but in His incredible grace, He gave me five more wonderful years with him. Those years were a precious gift that I will always treasure. My daddy left this world with peace in his heart, knowing everything was right between me and the Lord.

That experience forever changed my life.

God's promises are true. His mercy is greater than our failures, and His faithfulness never ends. I can never repay Him for His grace, but I can spend the rest of my life keeping the promise I made that day in the ICU—to serve Him with all my heart and to use the gift of music to share His love.

My prayer is that this ministry will encourage the weary, bring hope to the discouraged, strengthen believers, and through these songs and my testimony, lead others to a personal relationship with my precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He truly is the dearest Friend you will ever have.
